Masjid Nurul Iman Blok M Square: The Largest Mosque Built Above a Shopping Mall in Indonesia


In the midst of the bustling Blok M area, known as a shopping and culinary hub in South Jakarta, stands a unique and inspiring mosque: Masjid Nurul Iman. This mosque is located on the top floor (rooftop) of Blok M Square Mall.


Masjid Nurul Iman is known as the largest mosque built on top of a mall in Jakarta, with a large capacity that can accommodate thousands of worshippers, especially during Friday prayers and major religious events.


Architecture and Design


Masjid Nurul Iman Blok M Square features a Middle Eastern architectural concept, evident in its star-shaped ornaments and domes resembling mosques in Medina, Mecca, and Turkey. In the mosque courtyard, there is a miniature of the Kaaba, which is used for Hajj or Umrah manasik activities and is also a popular spot for taking photos.


Near the male worshippers’ entrance, there are small gardens with fountains that enhance the beauty of the area. The ablution areas and restrooms are designed to resemble those at Masjid Nabawi in Medina.



The mosque is divided into two sections: the western area for male worshippers and the eastern area for female worshippers. The main prayer hall is very spacious, with a ceiling decorated with cloud paintings and elegant chandeliers. Two large and small circular designs on the ceiling symbolize the sun orbiting the earth, representing the cycle of day and night.


Ramadan Activities to Look Forward To


During the month of Ramadan, Masjid Nurul Iman becomes even more vibrant with various religious and social activities, including:


  • Ramadan lectures and religious talks before iftar

  • Communal iftar and free takjil distribution

  • Congregational Tarawih prayers

  • Charity programs for orphans and underprivileged communities

  • I’tikaf during the last ten nights of Ramadan


These activities make Masjid Nurul Iman not only a place of worship, but also a space for sharing and strengthening community bonds.


Access to the Mosque


Masjid Nurul Iman Blok M Square is located in South Jakarta and is easily accessible. If using the MRT, visitors can get off at Blok M Station and walk approximately 600 meters. If using the commuter line, passengers can stop at Sudirman Station, then transfer to TransJakarta from Tosari Bus Stop to Blok M Bus Stop.


For guests staying at M Hotel Jakarta, access to the mosque is very convenient. Blok M Square Mall is located directly in front of the hotel. To reach Masjid Nurul Iman, simply enter the side of the mall behind A&W, take the elevator to the 6th floor, and then continue up the stairs to the mosque area.
